Technically, the Audemars Piguet works perfectly and has been recently revised: (297 °; + 2s / d).
The watch shows hardly any signs of use. There are no deep scratches, dents or the like, the glass is scratch-free.
The Royal Oak is an absolute legend among sporty and dynamic luxury watches and is the hallmark of Audemars Piguet. As a charismatic gentleman "must have" for every watch lover and collector. The Royal Oak has the typical charm on the wrist: the screwed, octagonal bezel designed by Gerald Genta with the beveled and polished edges and the integrated bracelet.
The present example is in excellent original condition. Both the case and the dial are original and untouched. In addition, a wonderfully classic original dial for replacement plus the AP service box, which blends in with the originality.
This Swiss watch manufacturer was founded in Le Brassus in the Vallee de Joux in 1875 by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet. Today it is the only traditional Swiss watch company that is still family-owned for more than 145 years. Both with the movements and in their sales channels both went innovative ways and were the first to open sales branches in Europe and America.
Under its own name, the “Grand Complication” pocket watch was presented in 1889, a first high point in the company's young history, and at the world exhibition in Paris.
The model offered here - the Royal Oak - is the ultimate classic, with its very innovative porthole design. The designer's specification was the creation of a clock that could be used for both the sporting event and the elegant evening soiree.
Of the Designer Gérald Genta designed the striking line of the octagon in the ship's porthole "face" and the Dial in the "Petite Tapisserie" pattern. The watch combines the look of a diving helmet with a rubber seal and bolt as an octagonal bezel with slightly curved edges. The edge of the glass is held on the housing with eight screws. To this day, the hexagonal heads on the bezel are precisely aligned and recessed radially. The concise dial is sometimes called Hufnagel-Muster, Tapisserie or Clous de Paris and very closely related to this watch model. The production is extremely complex and requires special know-how. Some of the machines for this are 40-100 years old. The designer Genta later immortalized himself with other models in the luxury watch world with the designs of the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the IWC Ingenieur and the Bulgari Bulgari.
Not only the design, but also the name of the clock is concise and unique: Charles II of England is said to have hidden from his pursuers in 1651 on an oak, later called Royal Oak. This also encouraged the Royal Navy to name some of their warships this way, whose cannon openings with octagonal frames were a possible connection to Gérald Genta's octagonal bezel.
With the initial marketing in 1967, the house’s top seller emerged.
The extremely high price and the unusually large diameter did not make the watch a best seller at the beginning. Over time, the popularity increased, making this the most important Uh todayline from Audemars Piguet. The world's first luxury steel watch was born.
