STORY OF THE BRAND
The Swiss watch manufacturer Baume & Mercier was founded in 1830 by the brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume under the name "Frères Baume" in the Swiss Jura. In 1918, the "Baume Frères" company, led by William Baume, merged with the Geneva watchmaker Paul Mercier, son of a tsarist officer - the birth of today's Baume & Mercier, Fabrication Genève brand. In 1919, Baume & Mercier received the Geneva seal, the highest international award for exceptional achievements in watch manufacture at the time.
In the Roaring Twenties, the company marketed some modern women's watch collections such as the famous "Marquise" and campaigned for the emancipation of women. The watch manufacturer was even more innovative - in 1973 Baume & Mercier presented the 'Riviera', one of the first sports watches in the world made of steel and a classic with a 12-cornered bezel.
Piaget held the majority of shares in the 1960s, and since 1988 the supplier, like Cartier, has belonged to the Richemont group. Today's model range is characterized by stylish, elegant watch series and, since 2015, also sporty wristwatches through a partnership with the famous American racing car manufacturer Carroll Shelby International, the manufacturer of the "Shelby Cobra".
In the "Worth knowing" section - since 1964 the company logo has consisted of the Greek letter 'PHI', the symbol for the golden ratio and Leonardo da Vinci's theory of proportion.
