The Longines Ultra-Chron offered here is a high-precision automatic wristwatch with 36,000 vibrations per hour and came on the market in 1967.
This watch is an example of the development of high-beat movements in the 1960s. In response to quartz watches, the manufacturers came up with the idea with 36,000 vibrations per hour, with higher precision and rate stability than movements with up to then usually fewer vibrations such as 18,000 A / h.
The Ultra-Chron (Ref. 7950) offered here was launched in 1967 for the 100th anniversary of Longines watch manufacture in Saint-Imier as an ultra-precise wristwatch with the addition of "Ultra-Chron" based on the 430 caliber series with automatic winding and impressive 42 hour power reserve launched. Production ran until 1975.
Famous fans: In addition to the first Atlantic high-flyer Charles Lindbergh, who survived the Atlantic crossing with a Longines pilot's watch strapped around his thigh, Albert Einstein owned both a pocket watch and a wristwatch from Longines.
Compagnie des Montres Longines, Francillon S.A. Established its first production facility in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, in 1832, where it is still based today, and is now part of the Swatch Group based in Biel. The world-famous logo represents a winged hourglass. That speaks for sporty timepieces and a wide range of watches from pocket and wristwatches, chronographs, time measuring devices to navigation instruments.
Longines is not only a traditional Swiss watch manufacturer in the higher price ranges, but with the brand registration in March 1893 the oldest registered watch brand in the world. In the first decades of the 20th century, the brand conquered markets and attention worldwide.
Longines was responsible for timing Charles Lindbergh's historic Atlantic crossing in 1927. And used the experience of this flight and the problem of efficient position determination for the development of a special wristwatch for aviation - the Lindbergh hour angle watch. This clock made it possible to determine the longitude, i.e. the hour angle of Greenwich, directly readable from the dial. It was available from 1932 under the name "Lindbergh".
In 1952 Longines was the Official Timekeeper for the Oslo Winter Olympics. In 1967 he launched the “Ultra-Chron” model, a very precise wristwatch with 36,000 vibrations per hour.
One of the more famous fans was Albert Einstein, who owned a Longines wrist and pocket watch. The pocket watch can be seen today in the Historical Museum in Bern.
