The Rolex is in very nice condition and shows no signs of wear. Technically, the Rolex works flawlessly. It has been professionally tested and has an average rate deviation of 5 seconds per day. The amplitude is 285 degrees, so there will be no need for service for the next few years.
The Oyster Prince Date + Day offered here was manufactured from 1969 and has the reference 9450. The inside of the waterproof screwed case back bears the words “Montres TUDOR S.A. Geneva Switzerland Patented ”and the inscription“ Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva ”on the outside.
The built-in automatic movement with date and weekday display is the A.S. 1895. The rotor bears the words "TUDOR AUTO-PRINCE SWISS MADE". The Rolex Jubilee bracelet, reference 6251, has a folding clasp with a Rolex crown. The Oyster technology for water resistance has also been used in many Tudor models since the market launch in 1926, such as Oysterthin, Oyster-Prince Ranger, Prince Oysterdate Ranger, Prince Oysterdate, Oyster Prince Date-Day, Oysterdate Chrono.
Today, Tudor is the only remaining secondary brand from Rolex and its 100% subsidiary, as well as an independent manufacturer of wristwatches. That speaks for the classic aesthetics and robustness and technology of the brand.
In 1926 the brand was registered by the “Veuve de Philippe Hüther” watch factory and has been part of the Rolex family since 1936. Since then, all Tudor collections have been manufactured under quality supervision by Rolex. The strategy is obvious to offer the Rolex quality at a lower price. Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex and buyer of Tudor, formulated the idea as follows:
“For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the Tudor watch company. "
Therefore, the Tudor watches from the time of this model look very similar to the Rolex models, as the Rolex design and technology are built in.
The current logo with lettering and coat of arms was only introduced in 1969. Until then, from 1936 on, the Tudor rose was the company logo, shown on the dial. This rose and the brand name were based on the symbol for England, where the Tudor rose can still be seen in the coat of arms of the United Kingdom and in the coat of arms of Canada. The idea was to emphasize the particular robustness and elegance of the brand.
In the “Famous Fans of the Brand” category: In 1952, Tudor equipped the team on the British North Greenland Expedition with 26 “Oyster Prince” watches as a promotional measure. A model that back then stood for 100 meters of water resistance with the automatic movement. In the second half of the 20th century, the Marine Nationale Francaise and the United States Navy Seals used Tudor watches for their divers, but the special resilience in continuous use was also advertised with mine and construction workers.
