Excelsior Park is a traditional Swiss watch brand with an exciting history closely linked to the development of mechanical chronographs. Although the brand is less known than Rolex or Omega, it is highly valued among connoisseurs and collectors. Here are the highlights of its company history:

#1 Foundation and Name

The brand was 1866 founded by Jules-Frédéric Jeanneret in Saint-Imier, Switzerland – a center of Swiss watchmaking.
The name Excelsior Park was used from the early 20th century and roughly means "the highest place" or "ever higher," symbolizing innovation and prestige.#2 Specialist in ChronographsExcelsior Park was a true pioneer in mechanical chronograph movements. The brand not only produced finished watches but also its own movements, making it a true manufacture.

Especially well-known is the caliber 4 – a precise, manually wound chronograph movement with a column wheel mechanism, appreciated for its quality and reliability.

#3 Collaboration with other brands

Excelsior Park supplied movements to many well-known watch brands, including:

  • Gallet

  • Zenith

  • Girard-Perregaux

  • Heuer (later TAG Heuer)

These collaborations helped Excelsior Park play a key role in the development of chronographs in the 20th century.

#4 Military use Company history of Longines

In the 1940s and 50s, Excelsior Park produced many chronographs for military purposes, especially for the Swiss Army. These watches were robust, precise, and clearly legible – ideal characteristics for use in the field.

#5 Decline and revival In the 1980s, with the rise of Quartz technology, Excelsior Park, like many other mechanical manufacturers, fell into economic difficulties and disappeared from the market.

But since the 2020s, Excelsior Park has been experiencing a revival: The brand was revived and is bringing newly interpreted models in vintage style to the market – with modern technology, but inspired by classic design.#6 Design and collector value

  • Simple, functional dials

  • Mechanical chronographs with column wheel control

  • Vintage charm combined with technical substance

  • Models from the 1940s–1960s are particularly sought after

Excelsior Park is a true chronograph cult label with great historical significance. The brand embodies the golden age of Swiss chronograph mechanics – with in-house developed movements, military robustness, and elegant restraint. Today, it is celebrating a comeback in retro style, appealing to collectors as well as new enthusiasts of classic mechanics.
