Brand Story
The Memosail Skipper is a specialized regatta/yacht timer watch with features and technologies that set it apart from ordinary chronographs. Here are its distinctive features:
#1 Regatta Countdown Complication
The Memosail Skipper has a countdown function that lets you track the final minutes before a sailing regatta starts using visual indicators (e.g., colored discs, a disk, or changing elements). The aim is to help sailors find the ideal moment to cross the starting line.
#2 Hybrid Technology
Early models are built around a mechanical base movement (e.g., ETA 2671) with a patented module containing the battery, integrated circuit, and countdown mechanism. This solution is designed to limit energy consumption while ensuring reliable timekeeping and an independent countdown function. In newer versions (from around 2003 onward), the Memotime 883 module is used, either combined with a mechanical movement or as a purely quartz-based system.
#3 Caliber 7757 in Special Editions
Some editions—such as the Skipper (or Skipper Jubilee)—use the Valjoux Caliber 7757, a specialized regatta movement. This variant differs technically from other Memosail models.
#4 Case, Features, and Water Resistance
The 1989 model was specified with a stainless steel case, a rotating bezel, and water resistance up to 100 m. The design combines functional elements (start indicator, countdown mechanism) with a bracelet/case concept that can also be used in a marine environment.
#5 Historic and Rare Status
The Skipper (and especially the Skipper Jubilee) was produced in limited editions. Its status as a regatta watch makes it a coveted collector’s item among vintage enthusiasts. Some examples feature exotic case materials (e.g., titanium with gold appliqués) and special finishes.
